The Dublin Estate, by Jackie Bourke and Dorothy Smith. This is part of a wider project called 'Neither Time nor Beauty are Absent' (from Marc Augé.) The book explores a mid-20th Century Industrial Estate in Glasnevin (multi-use: from factory to printing firm to places of worship and coffee roasters) on the outskirts of Dublin which is due to be 'rezoned' by the Council, for housing. With photos, maps, poems and essays, there's lots to ponder and reflect on. Highly recommended. "... Opens up a conversation on what we mean when we talk about place and non-place, fluidity in urban environments and late 20th century industrial heritage.
